The ‘Defibrillator Design Challenge’ is inviting designers to submit visual ideas to make the presence of defibrillators more visible to the public.
The competition, labelled ‘an amalgamation of public health and public art’, strives to make AEDs, which shock the heart back into a normal rhythm after Sudden Cardiac Arrest, more noticeable in public places.
The winners will be determined by an expert panel with votes through social media channels taken into account.
When someone suffers from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), prompt use of an AED is critical for survival. With the majority of SCA cases happening outside of a medical setting, it is very important that members of the public know where their nearest defibrillator is located.
The purpose of this contest, of which HeartSine is a partner, is to find a unique design that will immediately surround AEDs making them more noticeable and memorable in public spaces.
Knowing what to look for in an emergency and quickly deploying and AED and CPR really could be the difference between life and death for many people in the U.S.
